People often think it is short for Marcia, Marcella, or Marcelle. I get it spelt either Marcie or Marcy before just an "i" at the end. I grew up in the 80's when that show with Al Bundy was on so a lot of people would call me "Marcy Darcy". It was used as a secondary character name a lot on other TV shows too.
