The 'h' is silent, and not many people get that.

I pronounce my name with the "h", but then some people will spell it with a capital "H" and I don't like that. I really don't like the name Hanna but I do like the name Johanna. Always went by the nickname Jo and actually was a bit of a tom boy so the masculine aspect of the nickname fit perfectly. I am 80 years old and did not find many women with that name.

Johanna is also a biblical name. And I don't mind foreigners pronouncing it without the H, even though I very much like the H in my name. Makes it a tiny bit different from all the Joannas out there.

I always liked Johanna, the h is pronounced in the Netherlands. I did not like Hanke as nickname but I love Hans. For you anglophones, make sure you prounounce the a in Hans the same as the o in done and not as as the a in Jack.

I also love my name but it bothers me when people pronounce it Jo-Hannah.
