It's entirely too old-fashioned to fit me. As a camp counselor I go by a different name, and people are always surprised to learn that my real one is Michelle. It feels snooty and uptight. The only nickname I have is Shelly, which is not the greatest either, and feels almost mom-ish and doesn't fit me any better than Michelle does. Maybe Elle is another option, but that feels like a bit of a stretch in my opinion. I feel stuck with my name. If you are thinking of naming your child Michelle, please know that it is certainly not in fashion for my generation.
